Winkie counts down...
While I have the see-saw of emotions about going back, my dear little friend Winkie does not. He is very clear about where things stand for him. Yes, I think he had fun these 3 months. He also went through a lot these 3 months and has coped with a lot of emotional changes and all my mood swings and frustration levels. But he is ready to go back now. He says he misses Chicago and misses his Dad. And also his best friend Ab, with whom he hopes to rekindle lost ties.
The other day, we were sitting at the doctor’s office waiting endlessly to be called in, when he suddenly looked up from the song he was listening to on the walkman and asked…Amma, do you remember Chipotle mummam?
Now Chipotle is his favourite place to eat at and the burritos there are something he will down without a sound or fuss. So when he asked me that question with that special twinkle in his eye, I was more than a little fascinated. For, its not often that I get a window into his little mind.
In the same vein, he has been remembering other little little things about his home there that makes me realise that he has missed it and is happy enough about going back. Every morning he wakes up and counts down to the number of days left. And when he sees that number decreasing, he gives me a high five. At which point, I also remind him that he will miss all the grandparents and family here once we go there. He sobers at the thought and ponders some more. Seems mean of me to burst that bubble, but I have to give him a balanced viewpoint, to the extent I can manage the balance, of course.
His favourite question to be asked is…how will you greet your Appa when you see him at the airport? To which he replies that he will get a horn and blow on it loudly to get his attention. Errrm. Okaaayy.
And that officially makes this a very disjointed post…but did anyone notice?

Hi T - With my little girl being terribly sick all the time in India, I was actually waiting to get back to the country of residence. Nice to know Winkie is waiting for his dad and the horn blowing will be fun. You enjoy yr little friend.
Horn blowing is a nice idea.
Nice blog!
My boy keeps asking me when we can go back to India :) He had a blast and misses everyone a lot. It breaks my heart when he keeps asking me when can we go back :) Maybe he misses India so much since we were there only for 3 weeks.
:) And how will you greet his Appa? :) Fabulous post as always!
Horn blowing sounds good :D. You could add in a paper flower garland for good measure!
Winkie seems my kind of guy - by the end of a vacation, I'm usually thoroughly happy to be going back. Home is good, but home is good also!
T,add to all this the shiny bright eyes and the biiigggg grin the moment they step out of the vehicle to run in to their favourite corner of the house.Oh,thats always such a kodak moment and makes all the trouble of a long flight worth its weight in gold:)
