Button up for Valentine's!

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, Winkie and me and got busy during the weekend making individual cards for all his little friends in school. There was a lot of colouring involved and I thought we'd have to do it in batches, because of his short attention and interest span, but he took it up quite dedicatedly. He patiently coloured 8 cards in the colours I gave him, then wrote the names of all his friends on the front and his name on the inside, and then gathered everything and put them safely away inside a drawer. This morning, he insisted on taking it to his teacher for safekeeping until Thursday.

With that out of the way, we turned our attention to something special for his teacher, this afternoon. A similar heart cutout on thick paper, and outlined it with stuck-on buttons, with the word LOVE in the center. And inside was a little quote that I penned on his behalf...

“To learn and never be filled, is wisdom; to teach and never be weary, is love.”

And he signed his name. And just to make it look a bit more like a medal and also to provide a functional way to display it, if she so chose, I attached a little ribbon in red and white and tied it into a knot at the top. Right in the middle of our work, he remarked....this is fun, Amma...and gave me a smile. Need I ask for more...
