The happy tag...
Inspired by Nisha's comment, I am indeed making this a tag...
What makes your child happy? Have you asked him/her? If not in their own words, do you know? How about you...what makes YOU happy? Think about it, and write a post...or let me know through comments.
I'd really love to find out.

Hmmmmp. Unfortunately, every time I pop the question to Chula, 'Kanamma are you happy?', the only answer I get is 'Nnnooo, I am sad amma.' This even if she is giggling away and having the best time of her life.
Sometimes makes me think if it is worth doing 'what ever that I did'!
In a second I used build up so much rage, I would feel like giving her lessons about children on street and suffering and being thankful for simple things in life. Then feel funny for thinking all these within 1/millionth of a second.... oh the pace at which the mind works!!
So now a days Ido not ask. I just tell her, 'Wow, you are having so much fun. I can see that you are really really really happy'. End of discussion.
OK..i asked Ronit if he is Happy and he said Yes and the things that make him happy are
screwdriver (loves tools)
snow (loves to play in the snow)
Dad (no mommy..:(...)
Milk, Books (good boy!), Library, Barn (loves horses), Ms Susan's class (creative movement class), Houses, clothes, pencils, cars, pictures, cat, boxes and then he was tired thinking and started asking us what makes us Happy!!
I asked Siddharth and he said he is happy...Things that make him happy are
Hugs n kisses from Amma
Playing with his nephew(Arun)
Going to school
Reading 'Simba'story
Going for a drive with Appa in the Honda CRV
B'day and B'day cake
Wearing Halloween costume
Playing with cars
Riding his push scooter
I dont know whether you remember me,I have writen comments before but not very often.Siddharth just turned four and is going to montessori full time.....I love your blog and visit almost everyday.
I asked D this evening - What makes you happy? Instead of asking - Are you happy. I don't think she quite understood the sentence. She said - Helena!! [Helena is her newest friend in school]. I asked her again- What mumma does that makes you happy. She says - Oh, I laugh when you tickle me :)
As for - Are you happy. I don't dare to ask her. Because she asks me atleast 10 times a day. When I raise my voice, when I check her lunch box. The minute she realises she has done something she should not have done, she'll hug me and ask - Are you happy with me OR sad with me.
If I were to answer what makes her happy, the list is long. When I read to her, tell her stories making all sorts of faces and sounds. When we take her to Barnes and Nobles[She and her father are addicted]. When we play loud music and dance. When we visit people, esp. if they have kids.
I see where this comment is going.. Will do a post soon..
hmm good Q tharini!
now that i think abt it, i dont think i have ever asked either of my kids if they are happy or what makes them happy.
i have noticed that what does seem to diminish happiness is
1. vibes if either parent is stressed
2. feeling unwell physically
3. hunger /lack of sleep
4. having to many things around - clutter
if the above are taken care of, then nothing seems to bother them and they actually keep themselves occupied happily (like they are right now!)
Got to do a post on this. Haven't found time to put the brat's answers onto blogger.
UTBT : LOL! Chula and her reactions are always something to read about. :) Loved your conclusion of how things are today.
Anju : Now here's a simple and happy kid. A pleasure!
Hi Vidhya : I do remember seeing your id here before, tho I cannot recollect a comment you made. Loved what he said about reading Simba story. It used to be one of Winkie's favorites too. Only, he liked Scar a little too much. :)
DDMOM : Barnes and Nobles. LOL! Yes yes do a post. I'd like to see in what light it puts your high energy daughter! :)
Choxbox : That's actually very perceptive of you. God bless your daughters.
Nisha : Do let me know when you do!
Am thinking of doing this tag. I asked my daughter what makes her happy and then she asked me. Had a good time doing it with her!
